Floyd Troy James Jr.

Floyd Troy James, Jr., 84, passed away on February 21, 2023 at Gold Beach, Oregon.
Floyd became a much-welcomed son, after 13 years of wanting a child, to Floyd Troy, Sr. and Mildred Mary Phillips James at McMinnville, OR hospital. His parents took him home to Willamina, Oregon.
After graduating from Willamina High School in 1956, he went to college at Oregon Technical Institute, played football, and
graduated with Automotive Technology and Business Associate degrees. In 1959 Floyd became the manager of his parents'
business at the Dairy Queen in Brookings, Oregon. They enjoyed living and serving people in Brookings, and made many friends.
Floyd was a member of the United States Army National Guard for 10 years, and drove to Coos Bay, OR to do that service. He learned to fly a helicopter there which was a highlight in his life.
He met Mary Jean Tobler, a Del Norte High School Fine Art's teacher in 1966, and they married on February 24, 1968 in the St. George, Utah, Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They had two children Janell Marie James, and Jason Karl James.
In 1972, his parents retired and sold the Dairy Queen business. Floyd worked as the Harbor Master at the Port of Brookings and later served a term as a Port Commissioner. He studied real estate in Coos Bay, OR for a quarter and received his realtor license, going on to work with two brokers. He then obtained his broker's license in 1980, built a building behind the Dairy Queen and started his own business: James Reality, Inc. During this time, he became a landlord by purchasing real estate
and rentals. After retiring from realty work, he was employed for Pony Express for ten years. He was hired as a Security Guard at Lucky Seven Casino and was there for nearly 15 years. He was honored by receiving an employee of the year award while employed there.
Floyd had a love for automobiles, fishing, boats, and collecting guns. He was skilled at woodworking, especially with redwood
and myrtle wood, making clocks and furniture. He treasured any gift given him and took great care of them, including his childhood books and toys.
Floyd was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served under Branch President Cuddy White and Bishop John Griffith, Bishop David P. Choate and Bishop David R. McCune during a 12.5 year period as a financial clerk.
He is survived by his wife Mary Jean; his daughter, Janell Marie Long and her husband KJ Long, grandchildren Devyn James and Kayla Christine Long of Medford, Oregon, and his son Jason Karl James, and his wife Bonnie Landry James, and grandchildren Brooklyn Jean, Alexander Paul Saint, Anne Marie, and Esther Rose James of Clinton, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd Troy James Sr., and Mildred Phillips James.
There will be no public services due to exposure to Covid-19.
