Floyd Benjamin "Ben" Lewis, Jr., 84 passed peacefully to the arms of the LORD on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at his home. Ben worked at Lipton Tea Company for over 30 years and was known affectionately as "Pork Chop". He loved to fish, hunt and raise his garden. He especially loved to share the bounty of his garden with everyone who stopped by and would share advice on how to make it grow with anyone who asked.
Ben was born on December 15, 1940 to Floyd B. Lewis, Sr. and Ethylene Riddick Lewis. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 63 years Carol Darden Lewis, his son Robert (Rachel) of Suffolk, and his daughter Brenda (Rick) Boothe of Creedmore, NC. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Melissa (Max) Santa Ana of Burke, VA, Stephen (Betsy) Lewis of Capron VA, Jacob (Katlyn) Boothe of Creedmoor, NC and Joshua Boothe of Creedmore, NC and most recently by great granddaughter Olivia Boothe. He also had a sister, Mary Virginia Grode and a brother, John H Lewis Sr. who predeceased him, two sisters, Marjorie Darden and Judy Mastros who survive him. He is also survived by his sister in law, Patsy Lewis and brother in law, Tom Mastros.
Ben was a lifelong member of the Holy Neck Christian Church where he served in many capacities over the years and was a member of the Men's Sunday School class. He was a member of Box Elder Hunt Club for over 45 years. He continued to "come see what the boys had done" in recent years even as his health did not allow him in the field. He was famous for asking his son and grandson for the best cut of all deer they harvested and would then comment on how good it was once he had eaten it.
His memorial service will be March 22, 2025, 11 AM at Holy Neck Christian Church, 4400 Holy Neck Road with Rev. Michael Halley officiating. A time of visitation and celebration will follow the service. Internment will be in the Holland Cemetery following visitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Holy Neck Christian Church, c/o James Copeland, Treasure, 2370 Box Elder Road, Suffolk, VA 23437 or Box Elder Hunt Club, c/o Wesley King, Treasurer, 2212 Whitemarsh Road, Suffolk, 23434. Condolences may be registered at RWBakerFH.com. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory, Downtown Suffolk Chapel is serving the family.
