Floyd C Melrose passed away in Brookings, SD on January 27, 2026. A service for Floyd will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, February 2, 2026 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Brookings, SD. A visitation will take place prior to the service from 1-2pm.

Floyd Charles Melrose was born on April 16 1942 in Canby MN to Arnold and Doris (Olson) Melrose. Floyd attended school in Canby MN. graduating Canby High School in 1960. He continued his education at South Dakota State University Brookings SD. In 1964 Floyd joined the Army National Guard he was deployed to Vietnam where he worked at Military Intelligence with military clearance. Floyd work involved to drive across Siagon to pick up mail for Military Intelligence. Floyd was Honorably Discharged on March 12 1968.

On September 19 1982 Floyd married the love of life Alyce Jeanett Steuerwald at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Brookings SD. The couple made their home in Volga SD. After Floyd was discharged he returned to Brookings SD. He worked at South Dakota State University in the Chemistry department as the Engineering Technician. Setting up labs for students. He retired after 40 years.

Floyd loved photography, playing organ and piano, reading, fixing things, building things using electronics, beekeeping, doing things with chemistry and playing a good game of croquet. Floyd was kind, intelligent, hardworking, organized and loved his family and always looked after them. Floyd attended UCG and accompanied Alyce to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church Brookings SD. Floyd was a proud member of the American Legion post 114. He received many awards including Legionnaire of the Year.

Floyd died on January 27 2026 at The Neighborhood At Brookview Nursing Home in Brookings SD. Floyd is survived by his lovely wife Alyce, Clayton Melrose, DeeDee (Melrose) Todd Kelly, Audrey (Melrose) Dale Homuth, James and Martha Melrose, Harvey and Phyllis Melrose and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Floyd is Preceded in death by his parents Arnold and Doris Melrose. Grandparents Charles and Della Olson, Charles and Laura Melrose. Brothers Gordon and Kevin Melrose. Nieces Wendy and Shanna Melrose.
