Fonda Smithwick Oliver

Fonda Smithwick Oliver passed away on January 12, 2026.

She is survived by her daughter, Athena Eitneier (Sean) of Islamorada, Florida; her cherished grandsons, Sean William Eitneier and Nathaniel Eitneier, who brought her immense pride and joy; her sisters, Patricia "Patsy" Saxon (Ken, deceased) and Penny Koebel (George); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Maxine Waterman and Jean Krueger (Tom, deceased).

Born in Canton, Georgia, to Tommy and Vesta Smithwick, Fonda was a true Southern belle -strong, determined, and gracious in both spirit and style. As a young woman, she moved to Atlanta, where she married and raised her daughter, Athena, and made her home for many decades. During those years, she built a successful career managing decorator showrooms at the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center (ADAC), working closely with designers and helping shape beautiful spaces throughout the region.

After retiring, she returned to her roots in Canton before later relocating to Islamorada, Florida, where she enjoyed the warmth and the opportunity to be close to her daughter and family.

Beyond her career, Fonda was a passionate genealogist, an avid history enthusiast, and a devoted antique collector. She found great joy in uncovering family stories, preserving the past, and surrounding herself with objects that carried deep meaning and memory.

Her kindness, elegance, and genuine interest in others touched everyone she met. The impact she made through her warmth, wisdom, and love will continue to be felt by all who knew her.

She leaves behind a lifetime of love, treasured memories, and a legacy that will never be forgotten.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Historic Rock Barn in Canton, Georgia, on March 21, 2026, at 5:30 PM. All family and friends are warmly invited to attend and celebrate her life, legacy, and the many memories she shared with those who loved her.
