Fran Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wiley Funeral Home - Granbury on Jan. 27, 2026.
A native of Dallas, Texas, Frances Jane Smith was a devoted mother, wife, and grandmother whose life was marked by energy, laughter, and a deep commitment to her family. After employment at the Dallas Police Department, she spent more than a decade as the executive assistant to the vice president and news director at KDFW Channel 4 in downtown Dallas, where she also appeared in local commercials and could often be spotted on the sidelines of Dallas Cowboys games.
Fran embraced her love of the outdoors and passed it on to her children. She enjoyed spending time on Texas lakes, even piloting her own boat in women's fishing tournaments for a time.
Fran passed at the age of 77 and was preceded in death by her parents, Dan H. Houston and Vannie M. Houston; her husband, Michael R. Smith; her brother, Joel E. Bonner; and her grandson, Abraham Akins. She is survived by her sons, William J. Akins and Jacob D. Akins, and by six grandchildren: Jude Akins, Willa Akins, Cole Akins, Reed Akins, Taylor Akins, and Pierce Akins.
