Frances Eggleston Carter was born in Eden on November 8, 1927 to the late Frank Letcher Eggleston and Mattie Sue Parker Eggleston. She was predeceased by her brother, Frank Caddell Eggleston. Frances passed away at the home of her son or her home in Clarksville, VA on August 18, 2009. She was the chief music lover at Ogantz Junior College, graduating in 1946 and later graduating from Julliard. Frances was a music teacher for over sixty years, reaching out to several thousand young and adult persons. She had a genuine spirited mind and a love for humankind. She is survived by her eight children, Elizabeth Scott-Douglas of Columbus, Ohio; Cathryn Spencer and husband Ron, of Fayetteville; Glenn Scott and wife, Kathy of Mocksville; Dell Reaves and husband, Tommy of Durham; Frank Scott and wife, Kim, of Eden; Suzanne Scott, and Vern Carter and wife Gena, all of Clarksville, VA; and Sue Salinas and husband Michael of Hampton, VA. Eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be 11 AM Thursday at Clarksville Baptist Church, 210 5th Street, Clarksville, VA with Reverend Greg Randall and Evangelist Denis Fritz officiating. Frances will be laid to rest with her parents and brother at Lawson Cemetery in Eden, respectfully for family and relatives only. The family will receive friends 6-8Pm Wednesday at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home, 703 Virginia Avenue, Clarksville, VA (434-374-8258). Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Carter's name to Carter Music and Art School, P.O. Box 1244, Clarksville, VA 23927
