BARKHAMSTED – CHIRICO – Frances "Fran" Hassig Chirico, 84, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, November 30, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Gerald Chirico. Born February 15, 1929 in Winsted, CT; the daughter of the late Fred and Caroline (Morvidelli) Bedore. Fran co-owned with William Hassig the Hassig Service Station. She also worked as a Stenciler at Hitchcock Chair for 20 years and as the Gatekeeper for Barkhamsted Transfer Station for 32 years. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and gardening. She leaves her children, William (Robin) A. Hassig, Jr., of Winsted; Jennifer (Mike) Flaherty of West Hartland, Karen Hassig and (Bill Scapin) of Barkhamsted, Gloria Hassig Johnson of Rhode Island and Debbie (Rory) Montano of Canton; Grandchildren, Kristin, Katherine, Ryan, Austin, Conrad, David and Christina; great grandson, Mason; step-children, Gerald Chirico, Jr., George Chirico, Jerome Chirico and Darin Chirico and Linda Jacobs; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Frances Bedore. Gravesides services will be private. Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 5 Steele Road, New Hartford has care of the arrangements. The family would like to give a special thanks to the fourth floor, fifth floor and E.R. at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, DaVita Dialysis of Torrington, Foothills VNA Hospice Program and Dr. Kovalchik and Dr. Handelman.
