Frances Louise (Self) Cooney, a resident of McKinney, Texas, passed away May 24, 2025 at the age of 97. She was born on December 27, 1927, to her loving parents, William Wesley Self and Lula Isabelle (Jordan) Self, in New Hope, Texas. Frances grew up in McKinney and graduated from McKinney Boyd High School in the Class of 1945.
Frances married the love of her life, James Cooney, celebrating their love and commitment to each other on their wedding day, February 26, 1945, at the Old Red Courthouse in Dallas, Texas. They were blessed to celebrate 50 years of marriage just prior to his passing.
For 34 years, Frances dedicated herself to her role as a bank teller and lending assistant at Central National Bank McKinney, where she was known for her warm smile, strong work ethic, and genuine care for her customers. Frances loved shopping and enjoyed traveling, but her greatest joy came from her family. Frances especially loved watching her grandchildren's activities. Whether it was sports, band, or any other activity, she wanted to be there. Frances was of the Baptist faith and attended First Baptist Church McKinney.
Frances is survived by her daughter, Diana Greer, of McKinney, Texas; grandson, Jason Greer (wife Kara), also of McKinney, Texas; great grandchildren, Hannah Howell (husband Braden), Jonathan Greer (wife Victoria), and Benjamin Greer; niece, Angela Driggers; and a host of extended family members and friends, who will cherish her memory.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Lula Self, beloved husband, James Cooney, sister and shopping buddy, Joyce Driggers, brother-in-law, John Driggers, and son-in-law, Robert Greer.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Ridgeview Memorial Park, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas, 75013.
The family will receive guests during a visitation prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
