Frances Louise Cowart, age 95 of Oglesby, passed away on Friday, November 21, 2025. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at Scott's Funeral Home, with burial following at Post Oak Cemetery in Oglesby. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Frances was born March 22, 1930, in Oglesby, Texas to the late Luther and Maggie King. She graduated from Oglesby High School in 1949 where she excelled as a star basketball player.

In 1950, Frances married Soloman Leon Cowart and moved to Killeen, Texas where Leon was stationed in the United States Army. She began her working career as a bookkeeper at Barnes Plumbing in Killeen before moving to Gatesville and starting her career with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, where she dedicated 20 years of service as a correctional officer before her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Cowart; her parents; brothers, Sonny and Bill King; sisters, Marie Edwards and Bebe Penton; son, David Cowart; and niece Stephanie King.

Frances is survived by her sister, Kate Rockwood; son, Billy Jack Cowart and wife, Marsha; daughter in-law, Linda Cowart; grandchildren, Luke Cowart, Josh Cowart, Kori Cowart and Brandi Cowart; and great-granddaughter, Kylie Ann Cowart. She is also survived by her niece, Fadra Norton and husband, Jeff, Marilyn Rossler and husband, Herman, and Debbie Beechly; nephews, Farron Rockwood, Ben Edwards, and Matt King; numerous great nieces and nephews; and cherished pets, Zoey and Remi.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, Texas 75284.
