Frances Mahaffey Glascoe, 92, entered her heavenly home on the night of July 26, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. Frances Glascoe was born on March 30,1932 in Spartanburg County to the late Bertha Pearl Howell Mahaffey and Joseph Madison "Mack" Mahaffey.
Frances was a member of the last graduating senior class from Reidville High School in 1951. She then went to work at Bellsouth as a telephone directory assistance operator for the next 30 years from which she retired. Growing up, Frances and her family attended Washington Baptist Church. In 1959, her and her husband, Bill, began attending and became dedicated members of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church together. She was also a member of the Happy Hearts Senior Group and the Faithful Workers Sunday School class. Her family has great joy and peace in knowing she is resting in the arms of the Father now with a new and healed body.
Frances lived life to the fullest and had many stories to tell of it. A few of her most loved hobbies were traveling, cooking, and gardening. She traveled throughout the United States with her church group and reached 49 out of 50 U.S. states, Canada, and Nova Scotia. She also traveled with friends and family overseas to Australia, New Zealand, Scotland, and Ireland. One of her favorite travel destinations was Lake Gaston in NC with her family where she cooked for 20+ people every day and occasionally caught a ride on the jet-ski. Frances cooked like the ultimate grandma. Her grandchildren, Riley and Kaley, came home to a full stove top and oven every day after school. Butter beans, pound cake, pork chops, and macaroni and cheese were some of her favorites to cook. Along with cooking, she took great pride in her flowers. At the right time of year, her yard looked magazine worthy with the camellia, gardenia, peony, daylily, and iris blooms. She also enjoyed years of summer cookouts with homemade ice cream and Christmas parties with her many wonderful neighbors.
She is survived by her two sons, David William Glascoe, of Greer and Scott Kevin Glascoe and wife, Tammie of Goldsboro, NC; two grandchildren Riley Glascoe Wallace and husband, Joshua of Pikeville, NC and Kaley Michele Glascoe of Goldsboro, NC; sister-in-law, Alinda Mahaffey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Frances was predeceased by her loving husband, William Walker "Bill" Glascoe after 32 years of marriage, one sister (Marie Rogers), and five brothers (James Mahaffey, Aaron Mahaffey, Fred Mahaffey, Furman Mahaffey, and Joseph Mahaffey).
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 pm at The Wood Mortuary in Greer, SC while the funeral service will be held on Wednesday July 31, 2024, at 2:00 pm in the chapel at The Wood Mortuary and conducted by Dr. Drew Hines. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, SC.
Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at 1002 S Buncombe Rd Greer, SC or Washington Baptist Church at 3500 N Highway 14 Greer, SC.
