Frances Joan Hilling, 94, of Reedsville passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025, surrounded by her family at home. She was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Frances was born on September 16, 1931, in Morgantown, West Virginia, a daughter to the late William and Damaris (Lewis) Clemens.
Frances made significant contributions through her career in food service at Niagara Falls, where she worked for many years before transitioning to housekeeping at West Virginia University at Towers. Her dedication to her workplace extended beyond her daily responsibilities as she became actively involved in the employee union, advocating for her colleagues and enhancing working conditions.
A lifelong learner, Frances was proud to have earned her GED at the age of 60, exemplifying her belief in education and personal growth. Her commitment to learning mirrored her dedication to her faith as a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Reedsville, where she found community and fellowship.
Frances is survived by her daughter, Hazel Hanlin and her husband, Gary; her beloved siblings, June, Wanda, Sue, Kathy, LouAnn, Billy, Rodney, Joanna Lynn, and Bobby; her grandchildren, Holly, Heather, Chassie and Robert; and her great-grandchildren, Noah, Christopher, Brandon, Alyssa, Alyson, and James.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Arthur Hilling, stepmother, Betty Taylor; her sisters, Mildred and Mary; and her brother, James.
Friends and family will be received at Nicholson Chapel, 1326 Summers School Rd., on Saturday, November 1st from 10:00am until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 noon with Pastor Robert Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Nicholson Cemetery.
