Frances "JoAnn" LaPlace, 71, passed away peacefully at her home in Elkhart on Dec. 17, 2025.
She was born July 13, 1954, in Greenwood, S.C., and later moved to the Michiana area, where she graduated from Buchanan High School and attended Lake Michigan College. JoAnn dedicated more than 40 years as a journeyman meat cutter with Kroger Grocery Stores. On Feb. 20, 2003, she married Gene "Bud" LaPlace in Gettysburg, Tennessee.
Bud survives, along with her daughter, Shannon Green of Elkhart; her brother, James (Ruth) Green of Niles, Michigan; granddaughters Ashley Green of Elkhart and Sara Green of Bristol; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Michael Green.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Dec. 21, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Cruz Family Funeral Home in Osceola, with one hour of visitation prior to the 10 a.m. service on Monday.
