Frances Best Meadow, 87, of Albany, GA died Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at Wynfield Park.
Her memorial service will be 4:00 PM, Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Porterfield Methodist Church. Rev. Josh Duckworth and Rev. Chuck Knight will officiate.
Born in Grafton, VA, Mrs. Meadow, affectionately known as Nannie, resided in Albany since 1967. Before moving to Albany, Nannie and her husband, Ted, lived on a farm in Lee County where she helped her husband tend to the pigs while raising three kids under three years of age. She worked as a receptionist for Dr. Richardson for 20 years. She was a devoted member of Porterfield Methodist Church. Throughout the years, she volunteered for Meals-on-wheels, participated in the handbell choir, various prayer circles, and the United Methodist Women, serving as President from 1997-1999. Nannie never forgot a birthday, anniversary, special date, or name; she had a remarkable gift for befriending people from all walks of life. Nannie loved making Christmas cookies with her grand and great-grandchildren, walking along the shore collecting shells and sand dollars at her beloved Mexico Beach, fishing with Ted, and reading books on the beach to the sound of the waves. Nannie’s green thumb was evident in her ability to grow anything from daylilies to cherry tomatoes, and she delighted in watching hummingbirds flit around the hummingbird feeder from her kitchen table. Nannie put her sewing skills to use by hemming countless dresses and pants for her ever-growing family of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her cross-stitched words of wisdom and needlework were lovingly displayed at her home and beach house. Most of all, Nannie was cherished by her friends and family for her kind and gregarious nature. Her warmth and love was deeply treasured and will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Meadow, and daughter, Elizabeth Meadow Goolsby.
Survivors include her daughters, Ann Davis (Russell), Cindy Neal, son, Will Meadow (Lailani), grandchildren, Katherine Davis Manley (Stephen), Russell Dee Davis, Jr. (Kristin), Emily Rebekah Davis, Amanda Caroline Meadow, Ross Matthew Meadow (Sarah), Dustin Edward Tilley (Allison), Corbin Lloyd Tilley (Lacy), Connor Richard Neal, Justi Shallus Neal. Surviving great-grandchildren are Roger Curt Poer, Jr., Carolyn Diane Davis, Mary Frances Davis, Sarah Ashby Davis, Clay Richardson Tilley, and siblings Sarah Elizabeth Goyne (Jim), and Paul R. Best, Jr (Sue).
