Frances D. Mitchell was born on June 17, 1940, in Rand, West Virginia, to the late Martha R. Brown and Hulin Mimms. She later made Columbus, Ohio, her home after moving there in 1968.

Frances dedicated her life to helping others, beginning her career in social work in 1977. She was a proud member of the first committee to open the Ohio Food Bank and played an instrumental role in launching the state’s first medical mobile bus route—both initiatives that continue to serve countless individuals and families today.

For 32 years, Frances faithfully served as a social worker at Gladden Community House, where her compassion, commitment, and advocacy touched the lives of many. She was also actively involved with the senior citizens at Village Place, always offering kindness, guidance, and a listening ear.

Frances passed away peacefully of natural causes. She is survived by her three children: William K. Mitchell (Julie Hagans), Jeffrey L. Mitchell, and Lynn Y. Mitchell. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Monica (Ernest) Mitchell, Monic Harrish, Farad Mitchell, Mareece Mitchell, Dawnyelle (Malik) Squire, Tameka Mitchell, and Ian Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Jeffrey Mitchell.

Frances will be remembered for her funny sayings, her friendly spirit, and her gift for storytelling that could light up any room. Her laughter, warmth, and legacy of love will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.
