Frances Evelyn Owens, fondly known as Evelyn, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on June 19, 1932, in Virginia, Evelyn's long and fulfilling life was a testament to her unwavering faith, boundless love, and enduring spirit.
Evelyn spent her early years in Virginia, where she was raised by her loving parents, Charles and Mary Davis, alongside her 10 siblings. She was preceded in death by her two devoted husbands, Bill L Dorton and Buford M Owens, whose memories she cherished dearly.
As a stay-at-home mother, Evelyn dedicated her life to nurturing and raising her beloved children. Her role in the home was her greatest joy and her most precious gift. Later, she worked for five years at CBN, where she touched many lives with her kindness and generosity.
A beacon of faith, Evelyn was deeply involved with Azalea Garden Church of God. She was a passionate Sunday School teacher and a cherished choir member, sharing her musical talent and love for the Lord with all who knew her. Evelyn's commitment to serving others was evident in her contributions to various ministries and her compassion for visiting members in the hospital.
Evelyn's profound faith shaped her life and inspired those around her. A strong woman of faith and a precious Christian woman, spreading warmth and wisdom to her family and friends.
She leaves behind a loving family, including her children, William Larry Dorton, Glynis Dorton, Gina Hudson & husband Jim; grandchildren, Nicole Danielle Sanford & husband Justin, and Joshua Ryan Hudson; and great-grandchild, Evelyn Ward. Evelyn will also be remembered by her extended family and numerous friends whose lives she touched with joy and kindness.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 29, from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Azalea Garden Church of God, with a funeral service to follow immediately at 12 p.m. Evelyn will be laid to rest at Rosewood Memorial Park.
