Frances Powell, age 87, passed away peacefully at Community Hospice in Vidalia on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Collins on September 12, 1937 to Otha and Effie Westbury Johnson and had lived in Savannah for 21 years before moving to Reidsville in 1974. A cherished homemaker, Frances dedicated her life to caring for her family and creating a warm and loving home.
Frances was not only known for her nurturing spirit but also for her remarkable culinary skills. Those who enjoyed her meals remember her as a great cook whose dishes brought comfort and joy to family gatherings and celebrations.
Throughout her life, Frances embraced various interests and hobbies that enriched her days. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Foxy Ladies, where she found friendship and fun. Her adventurous spirit led her to travel the Blue Grass Circuit, enjoying the sights and sounds of the outdoors. Frances also found solace in activities such as camping, sewing, and fishing, all of which brought her closer to nature and created wonderful memories.
She is a member of the Reidsville Baptist Church and is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Marvin Claude Powell and her siblings, Arthur Johnson, Otis Johnson, James Johnson, Mitchell Johnson, Freddie Johnson, Kathleen Harvey, Esilie Mosley, and Betty Jean Wilson.
She is survived by her sons and daughters in law, Robert and Lisa Powell of Reidsville, Randy Powell (Samantha) of Guyton, and Ramon Powell (Sandy) of Lyons; grandchildren, Amanda (Blair) Jeffcoat, Dustin Powell, April (Ricky) Esquivel, and Justin R. (Katie) Taylor; great grandchildren, Ashlyn Jeffcoat, Jacob Esquivel, Waylon Taylor, Mason Taylor, and Alaina Taylor; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 13, 2024, at the funeral home beginning at 6:00pm. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the Reidsville Baptist Church with Doctors Charles Jonas and Rick Cason officiating. Interment will be in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Tattnall CARES or St. Jude’s Children's Hospital
Pallbearers will be Ricky Esquivel, Richard Braddy, Loren Cranford, Brian Johnson, Eddie Horne and Wiley Sumner.
