Frances G. Schaftlein, age 94, of Battletown, KY passed away at her home on November 8, 2025 with members of her family by her side.

She was born on June 4, 1931 in Louisville, KY daughter of the late Joseph Kiefer and Lula Mae Barbee Kiefer. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandchildren, Casey Schaftlein, Steven Schaftlein, and Michael Redgrave; daughter-in-law, Tricia Schaftlein; and siblings, Dorothy Countin, Philip Kiefer, William Kiefer, Leo Kiefer, Helen Benock, Richard Kiefer, Mary Evans, Clara Sims, Anna Carpenter, and Margie Schaftlein.

Frances was a faithful member of St. Mary Magdalen in Payneville, KY. She married her childhood sweetheart and together they raised a family. She loved flower gardening and made the farm that she shared with her husband a beautiful place to behold. She loved having the opportunity to be a kid again whenever she was with her children and grandchildren. Her husband and 9 children were always treated to hearty Southern cooking and delicious German baking and desserts. She had a love for quilting. One of her quilts won the Blue Ribbon at the Meade County Fair, and several were chosen to be sent to the Kentucky State Fair. All of her children and grandchildren have been enriched by the gifts of one or more of her quilts.

She is survived by her loving husband of 77 years, David E. Schaftlein; children, Ronnie Schaftlein, Wayne (Darlene) Schaftlein, Donna Schaftlein Redgrave, Karen Schaftlein, Deborah Schaftlein, Gail (Ken) Pineault, Randy (Rita) Schaftlein, David (Lisa) Schaftlein, and Daniel (Jill) Schaftlein; 18 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at the Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home on Friday, November 14, 2025 from 4-7:00 P.M. with a prayer service held at 6:00 P.M. with Deacon Greg Beavin officiating.

Funeral Mass will be held at the St. Mary Magdalen of Pazzi Church in Payneville, (110 KY-376, Payneville, KY 40157) on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. A short visitation will be held at the church that morning from 10:00-10:45 A.M. before the Mass. Father George Illikkal will be officiating; burial will follow in the church cemetery.
