After a lengthy illness with Alzheimer's disease, our beloved Frances Charlotte Turner quietly slipped away from this earthly life to go to her heavenly home on Sunday, January 26, 2025.
Frances was born on November 17, 1942, in Columbus, OH, the fifth child of the late Wesley and Frances Turner and was named after her Mother. Thanks to her grandmother, Queen Elizabeth Turner, Frances accepted Christ as her personal Savior at the Centenary Methodist Church at an early year. Frances was affectionately known as "Peaches" and Aunty "Peachie".
Frances attended Garfield Elementary School, Everett Junior High School and graduated from East High School.
During her early years, she had a brief career with the Welfare Department in Columbus, OH. Later on she became a stay at home Mom.
One of our fondest memories of Frances, were the different times that Frances and her sister, Arlena, would slip out at night to go the Rollerland Skating Rink to skate from midnight until three o'clock in the morning. Her sister, Pat recalls having so much fun playing skip rope and hopscotch when they were young girls.
Frances favorite pastimes were working her crossword puzzles and going to Bingo. Her home was the hangout place where all of her nieces and nephews loved to go to play with her sons, Rodney and Gregory and her daughter, Tracie. Frances loved her role as the family babysitter to allow her other family members to pursue their careers.
At every family gathering, Peaches had to bring her famous Potato Salad. Frances was preceded in death by her second born son, Gregory Turner, her father, Wesley Turner, her mother, Frances Ann Black, her two stepfathers, Henry T. Austin and Ralph Black, her brother, Wesley Turner, Jr., and her sister, Donna Lee Johnson, and her special cousins, Pastor G. Thomas Turner, Beverly Heath and Dorothy Coleman.
She is survived by her son, Rodney Turner, her daughter, Tracie Turner Dixon, her three grandchildren, Gregory Turner, Jr., Raphael Steward and Alexis Lynne Turner, her three great grandchildren, R. J. Steward, Reign Steward, Layanna Turner, her two sisters, Patricia Turner Walters and Arlena Fitch-Gordon, her nieces and nephews, Selena A. Fields, Shirleen R. Anderson, Lisa L. (Rodney) Palmer, Daron S. Fitch, Esq. (Dr. Suzanna Dotson), and a host of great nieces and nephews and special cousin, Betty Stallworth.
