Frances L. Van Dyke Smith, 82, of Syracuse, passed away Wednesday at Iroquois Skilled Nursing Community. Born in Pennsylvania, she was a graduate of Blossburg High School and settled in Syracuse in 1956. Frances worked with Dr. Robert Callahan, DDS, for over 35 years as the office manager. A member of St Luke’s Episcopal Church and their Altar Guild, she enjoyed gardening, but most of all, loved spending time with her family and friends.
Frances was predeceased by her first husband, James Van Dyke; second husband, Reginald Smith; parents, Lewis and Frances Davies; and brothers, Lou and John Davies.
Surviving are her daughter, Lori (William) Erlenback of Elbridge; son, James (Tracey) Van Dyke of Syracuse; granddaughter, Madison Van Dyke; step-grandchildren, Melissa and Billy Erlenback; sister, Betty (Bill) Armani of Richmond, VA; half-sisters, Patty Wilcox and Mickey Jones; brother-in-law, Larry Van Dyke of Liberty, PA; sister-in-law, Sylvia Watkins of Covington, PA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may call Monday, October 2, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home.
Frances will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Assoc. of CNY, 5015 Campuswood Dr., Ste. 102, E. Syracuse, NY 13057 or to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 5402 W. Genesee St., Camillus, NY 13031.
