Obituary for Francesco Vincent Ortoleva
Francesco Vincent Ortoleva, beloved son, brother, friend and educator, passed away on October 30, 2025, in Miramar, Florida, at the age of 60. He was born on October 8, 1965, in Rome, Italy to Vincent and Anna Maria Ortoleva.
Francesco grew up in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. At the age of 10, the family relocated to Boca Raton, Florida, where Francesco spent the remainder of his life in the South Florida area. From a young age, he was captivated by history-particularly Roman and Etruscan history. Those childhood summers spent in Rome visiting family and exploring every corner of the Eternal City inspired a lifelong appreciation for the past; by the age of sixteen, Francesco knew the city better than many native Romans.
Francesco pursued his love of learning with dedication and purpose. He earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science from Florida Atlantic University, a Master's degree in International Affairs from Florida State University, and a Doctorate in International Relations from Florida International University. His passion for education was evident in all that he did, and he found great joy in sharing his knowledge and inspiring his students at St. Thomas Aquinas High School.
Beyond the classroom, Francesco's enthusiasm extended to various spheres of life but especially to the world of sports. He was a devoted fan of AS Roma, Miami Dolphins, and Miami Heat, and he proudly cheered for both Florida State and the Miami Hurricanes-especially when they weren't playing each other. His energy and loyalty made game days a joyful event for all who watched alongside him.
Francesco was known for his warm heart, generous spirit, and kind nature. He carried with him a deep love for family and friends, and his presence brought joy and laughter wherever he went. Those who knew him will remember his compassion, intellect, and unwavering dedication to helping others learn and grow. He combined all these traits with a sense of humor that further elevated the joy his family and friends experienced in his company.
Francesco is survived by his loving mother, Anna Maria Ortoleva, and his devoted sister, Debora Ortoleva. He was preceded in death by his father, Vincent Ortoleva. Francesco also leaves behind his soulmate, Carla Rabinowitz, and her daughter, Sandra Rabinowitz, who held a special place in his heart. He also leaves behind his beloved cat and loyal companion, Caesar (named after Julius Caesar). Additionally, he is survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, as well as close friends, colleagues, and students who will never forget his knowledge, wit, and sense of humor.
A Catholic Mass will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 2:45 PM at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church to celebrate Francesco's life and faith. Please note, those who will attend church services, to park at the Bienes Center for Arts which is located at 2812 SW 12 Street in Ft Lauderdale. He will be laid to rest with honor at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, 2860 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, Florida 33759. In lieu of flowers, the family has decided to set up a memorial scholarship to honor his memory while assisting future scholars to carry forward his passion for learning. https://gofund.me/c03f8edab
May his soul rest in peace, and may his light continue to shine in the hearts of those who love him.
