Francis Anders Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by VanderLaan Funeral Home - Hudsonville on Dec. 30, 2025.
Francis Glenn Anders Jr, age 85, was called to Heaven on December 24, 2025.
He was born and raised in Pasadena, TX. Although he lived many years in Jenison Michigan and then 40 + years in Gallipolis, OH, he always referred to himself as a Texan. He was a college professor for 53 years and loved teaching various Biology courses. He often was cared for by nurses he had taught in class. He also enjoyed spelunking and took his daughters and college students on many wild caving trips. From this hobby, he developed his love for bats. He was always happy to share his knowledge of nature with hikes with family and daughter's Girl Scout troops. He also enjoyed canoeing with family and students. He had a great love for music. He enjoyed taking his daughters to college choir and band concerts to instill a love of music. He was very active for many years in round dancing and he loved being a round dance caller/cuer. He loved singing in the church choir and faithfully participated in the choir at 1st Presbyterian church in Gallipolis. We convinced him to go on a "color tour" to get him to move back to Michigan in 2024, and he remained at the Oaks in Jamestown until his passing.
He is survived by his daughters, Pamela (Jason) Veale, Robilynn (Kabet) Sterk, and Liana (Curt) Colson; his late wife's two daughters, Mary Kay (Alan) Queen and Tina Jones; grandchildren, Paige Sam, CJ Snip, Kailey Bookout, Seth Colson and Samantha Colson, Dalton Queen, Derrick Queen and Samara Queen; great granddaughters, Brielle Sam and Lyndee Kay Queen; sister-in-law, Brenda (Bob) Anders.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 20 years, Roberta "Kay" Anders; brother, Robert "Bob" Anders; son, Francis Glenn Anders III "Chip"; daughter, Kimberly; grandson, Trenton; parents, FG "Frenchie" and Rachel Anders.
He will be missed by his family and friends, but we take comfort knowing that he is now healed in mind, body and soul.
Many thanks and appreciation go to the Oaks of Jamestown and Optimal Care Hospice for the loving care given. A brief memorial reception will be held at his church in Gallipolis, OH on March 22, 2026, and a private graveside service in Texas later in 2026.
In lieu of flowers, donate to First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 51 State St, Gallipolis, OH 45631.
