Francis Dougherty

Francis X. Dougherty Sr., age 77, passed away peacefully at home on March 16, 2026, in Clayton, Delaware.

A veteran of the United States Air Force, Francis served his country with honor and integrity. Following his military service, he worked as an electronic technician for more than 20 years. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, where he proudly served two years as Grand Knight. He was also a member of St. Matthews parish men's guild for many years.

Francis-affectionately known as Frank or Doc-was a lover of all music and dancing, and he especially enjoyed traveling the world with his wife and family. For more than 30 years, Francis lived with Parkinson's disease, facing it with quiet strength and resilience.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Renee, and his sister, Elizabeth. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Celia Dougherty; his daughter, Amy; his sons, Francis and Harry(Amy); six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his brother, Patrick; and his sisters, Mary and Rita.

His love of music, laughter, and family will live on in all who had the joy of knowing him.

Family and friends are invited to St. Matthew's Church, 901 E. Newport Pike, Wilmington, DE 19804 on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 11 A.M. Burial to follow at All Saints Cemetery.
