RANDOLPH - Francis (Frank) Lee McLaughlin, 84, of Randolph passed away on September 24, 2023.
He was born on December 27, 1938, in
South Gardiner, Maine. He was predeceased by his father (Francis Lee McLaughlin), mother (Alberta Pinkham McLaughlin), and sister (Eileen Lovely).
Frank's memory is carried on by his loving sisters, Mary Jean Parker and Deborah Maillet, and his beloved wife of nearly 63 years, Dianna. His seven children, Frank (Kim), John, Laurie (Greg), Suzanne (Eric), Mark (Jackie), Sara, and Amy (Charles) will be forever grateful for his love and the values he taught them. His grandchildren (Ben, Danielle, Frank, Owen, Drew), step-grandchildren (Miranda, Alex, Nolan, Kenai), and step-great-grandchildren (Ashley, Kiana, Rori, Reagan) were an immense source of joy. He leaves behind numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He also had many friends and neighbors that profoundly impacted his life.
Frank graduated from Gardiner Area High School in 1957 and was a long-time manager for Progressive Distributors. His work ethic was second to none and his employees at Progressive appreciated his willingness to work alongside them. After he retired, he worked at the US Post Office in South Gardiner and enjoyed chatting with everyone in the community.
Frank was a sports enthusiast and faithful fan of the New England Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics, and Gardiner High School Football team. He was a gifted athlete-baseball pitcher, bowler, and avid golfer. He spent many hours at Cobbossee Colony Golf Course where he was a 6-time league champion. He coached his sons' Gardiner Little League team (Cottle's) in the early 1970's and grandsons' baseball (Maranacook JV) and football (Gardiner Youth Football) teams. He could be heard cheering in the stands at all of his children and grandchildren's sporting events, including those that conjure up images of the "Bad News Bears".
Frank had the most amazing laugh, the sound of which could brighten the harshest of days. He loved telling stories. It is hard to imagine that his grandchildren will ever forget his tales of "one eye" or his childhood antics. He also had a love for animals, including his beloved dog Blu who was a constant companion. He had a beautiful singing voice and occasionally displayed his piano skills.
Frank's faith was a source of comfort throughout his life. In his later years, his morning began with a cup of coffee and his Bible.
Frank's legacy is one of love, laughter, friendship, and commitment. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He lives on in Heaven and in the lives of all he touched.
Frank's visiting will be held on Friday, October 6th, from noontime – 2:00 pm at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, where a memorial service will follow at 2:00pm.
Arrangements are entrusted with Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue,
