Francis David Rasmussen

Frances "David" Rasmussen, 85, passed away in Arlington, Texas unexpectedly after a brief illness. David was born at home in Hersey, Wisconsin, on November 6, 1940, to Frances and Clarence Rasmussen. He was born into a family of faith and accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and was baptized at the age of 12 in the Chippewa River, Eau Claire, Wisconsin, during the summer of 1952. He loved the LORD and eagerly anticipated the day when he would go home to experience Heaven.
Preceding David in death was his son, Todd, his parents Frances and Clarence, his brothers Eugene and Roland, and his sisters, Mercedes and Jacqueline.
Being that David was born on election day in 1940; his parents wanted him to have the initials of the then U.S. President, F.D.R. Because his mother, grandmother and cousin shared the same first name, the family chose to call him by his middle name, David. When he was 7 years old and in 2nd grade, he, along with his entire class was instructed to bring their birth certificate to school to verify the accuracy of school records. At this time in history, Francis the Talking Mule was a popular movie playing in theaters. Not wanting to be teased, when the teacher passed by to check his certificate, he held his thumb over his first name. The teacher kindly asked, "No middle name, David?", to which he replied, "I guess not". David joined the United States Marine Corps in 1958 and proudly served his country. While living in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, he enjoyed his work at Johnson Printing Company, and later Huebsch Linen Services. He married Glenda Stewart on November 10, 1990, and moved to her hometown of Glen Rose, Texas. Together, they owned and operated, The Substation – Gas, Deli, and Service Station. After the sale of their business and until his retirement, David worked at the Somervell County Jail as a Jailer.
David loved golfing with his friends and traveling with Glenda and their RV club. He enjoyed his weekday lunches with his dear friends at the Senior Center in Glen Rose. He found great joy in utilizing his God-given talents by volunteering his time at the Lutheran Braille Workers production center in Fort Worth, Texas, and building homes with the Texas Habitat for Humanity team. He was an incredibly hard worker, had an eye for details, was crazy organized, and had a heart filled with kindness. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Glenda; his children, Teresa (Doug) Stine, Tony Rasmussen; his stepchildren, Shane Timmerman, Casey Timmerman, and Teri Jo Bracy; his brother, Dennis (Carol) Rasmussen; and his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. They knew how much he loved them as he never missed an opportunity to send them a birthday or Christmas card. His thoughtfulness towards others will hopefully be a beautiful legacy passed down for many generations to come.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, December 6th at 10:30am at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Granbury, Texas.
