Francis C. Turner, 104, of Tunkhannock, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Marquette Hospice House.
He was born on April 29, 1919 in Rome Township, to the late Charles and Louise (Kelly) Turner.
He married Mary-Jean Lilly on June 19, 1948. She preceded him in death in 2008.
Francis graduated from Titusville High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from Penn State in 1949 and later obtained his Master of Science in Community Development from the University of Arizona in 1968. He was employed with Penn State Extension as an Area Resource Development Agent for the Northern Tier for 33 years.
Francis retired from the U.S. Army Reserves as a Major. He served during World War II in Company A, 17th Armored Engineer Battalion, 2 Armored Division in the European Theater and earned seven battle stars including a Silver Star, a Bronze Star and the Belgian Fourragere with colors.
He was of the Catholic faith. He was very active in his community and really enjoyed golf.
Francis is survived by his daughter, Sue Benninger and her husband, Larry; his son, Sam Turner all of Saegertown; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three remaining siblings.
Francis will be interred at Indiantown Gap, with military honors.
