Frank Ala Obituary

Frank G. Ala, formerly of Chicago, passed away in Oro Valley, Arizona on April 11, 2021, with his wife by his side.

Frank was born on May 16, 1934 to Frank and Mary Macari Ala. They preceded him in death, as did his two daughters, Leslie Ala and Cheryl Ala. Frank is survived by his wife, Judy Vittitoe Ala and cousins Robert (Diane) Macari, Ron (Marilyn) Macari and Georgina (John) Harding.

Frank grew up on the Southside of Chicago in the Italian neighborhood of Roseland. He attended Fenger High School, received a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT and an MBA from Rosary College.

After college, he entered the Air Force and served as an air traffic controller in Taegu, Korea and as an instructor at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. After returning to civilian life, he started a career in the thriving steel industry on the Southside of Chicago and in Gary, Indiana.

After a career as a consulting engineer, specializing in crane equipment with Morgan Engineering and Harza Engineering, he retired in 1994 to travel with Judy for pleasure.

In 2015, Frank and Judy moved to Oro Valley (Tucson), Arizona to be close to family.

Frank was a man who knew no strangers. He was a listener, a storyteller and a loving father, uncle, and husband who will be greatly missed.

One of my favorite memories of Uncle Frank was seeing him at the train station and riding into or out of Chicago with him. He was the warmest person I ever knew. He loved people and was always interested in what they had to say.

My sympathies to Frank's wife and family. I worked with Frank at Harza for about 15 years. He was my supervisor for 2 years and was a pleasure to work with over the years.

I remember Frank from when he lived on East 116th Street in Chicago's Italian section. He lived two doors east of my aunt. Since I spent a lot of time at my aunt's house I got to know Frank. I believe he went to Scanlan grade school as I did.
If I remember correctly ( I am 85 years old) Frank had red hair.
I also had a crush on Frank.
My deepest sympathy to you and your family. However, it brought back some nice memories of being kids in the 1940s.
GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
