Frank Douglas Carey, Sr. of Lynchburg, Virginia, departed from this world on September 14, 2024, leaving behind a legacy filled with love and cherished memories. He was the devoted husband of Dottie Gibson Carey for 28 wonderful years, sharing a bond that many admired.

Born on December 12, 1942, in Virginia, Frank was the beloved son of the late William Raford Carey and Ethlyn Marshall Carey. His commitment to service was evident as he proudly served his country, retiring as a Master Gunnery Sergeant after 24 years with the United States Marine Corp Reserves. Frank further pursued his education through ECPI in Charlottesville, setting a foundation for a successful career. He was a respected senior data control technician with B&W and later became one of the first employees at Frito Lay during its startup in Lynchburg.

Frank's joys in life were many. He found peace and happiness in fishing, cheering on Duke basketball, and celebrating the Yankees' victories. However, it was on the dance floor of the Lynchburg Shag Club where he truly came alive; it was here that he first met Dottie, and together they created countless joyful moments dancing through life. Known for his sweet tooth, Frank often indulged in his favorite snacks. He and Dottie enjoyed visiting the beach and spent many hours metal detecting.

His loving spirit will continue to live on through his children, Chip Carey and Kimberly Lear, and her husband, Todd; his stepchildren, Georgianna Harris, and Fred P. Harris and his wife, Erin; as well as his seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Frank also leaves behind cherished sisters, Janet Ballard and Glenda Peters, and a wide circle of friends.

Frank was also predeceased by his beloved daughter, Rebecca Carey.

A celebration of life visitation in honor of Frank's life will be held at Tharp Funeral Home on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Friends, family, and loved ones are invited to join in celebrating a life well-lived.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
