RSadly, Frank Gilbert died May 14. He was 91 and lived a full life. He attended Harvard College and Harvard Law School.
Certainly we live in a more beautiful world because of Frank's important work in historic preservation. He was a pioneer in this field and was so pleased with his role in helping save Grand Central Station. As a lawyer working for the City of New York in the early '60s, he helped draft the legislation that established the New York City Landmarks Commission. He served as its executive director until 1975. We moved to Washington where Frank worked at the National Trust for Preservation from 1975 to 2010 as Senior Field Officer.
Six years ago he was diagnosed with advanced Parkinson's disease. We were fortunate to have Marvin Angeles as a loving, thoughtful aide. The past week was difficult as Frank tried to overcome pneumonia and other complications.
I consider it an honor to have taken good care of such a distinguished, kind loving man who was my husband for 49 years

Dear Ann, We mourn the loss of our dear friend and classmate, Frank, who did so much to make this a better world, and who did it in the kindest, most thoughtful, and humblest manner. He was a special person who has enriched us all. It was privilege to have shared a small part of life with him. Thank you for perpetuating his memory and his legacy.
All our love,
Bruce and Ann Lane

Dear Ann, It was with sadness that we heard of Frank's passing. He was a brilliant and interesting man, and a wonderful neighbor. He will be missed. You most likely walk faster than I but it would be grand to meet up either for a walk or lunch, or perhaps both. Fondly, Roberta & Peter
