Frank Marlyn Hare
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Frank Marlyn Hare, 87, of Andalusia, AL, who passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.
Mr. Hare was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend to many. He was a gentle soul who inspired his children to lead successful, thoughtful lives filled with creativity and kindness. He touched many lives during his years as a youth coach and was affectionately called "Unc" by family and friends.
He was born on April 23, 1938, in Andalusia, AL, and graduated Pleasant Home High School in 1956, where he was a basketball standout. After graduating he spent a year in Texas before returning to Alabama to marry his beautiful wife, Wanda. He joined the Alabama Electric Cooperative (now Power South) where he enjoyed a long and successful career, working 44 years before retiring in 2002. He also served his country, having retired from the Alabama National Guard after serving for more than 20 years. He loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed his years coaching youth sports in the 1960s and '70s. He was also an avid Alabama football fan and spent many a Saturday afternoon in front of the TV rooting for the Tide.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Almer Van (AV) Buren Hare and Maude Virginia Chesser Hare, and his beloved siblings, Betty Sue Kirby and Carlton (Sonny) Chesser Hare.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sylvia Wanda McClellan Hare; children, Ty Marlyn Hare (Scott), Jay Shannon Hare, and Susan Hare Barnett; two grandchildren, Dustin Mitchell Hare (Ali) and Sydney Elizabeth Barnett (Carly); six great-grandchildren, Kari, Kylie, Brycen, Austin, Sadie and Gavin Hare; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
There will be a celebration of life at Chantilly House, 402 S 3 Notch St, Andalusia, AL, on January 24, 2026, from 2 pm – 4 pm.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
