Frank "Chip" Horwath of Pawleys Island, formerly of Atlanta, died peacefully on April 24, 2025.
He was born in Washington, D.C. on November 04 1944, to Frank and Lorraine Horwath. Chip lived in Japan and Greece during his father's military assignments but he grew up in Springfield, Virginia. He attended Virginia Tech before serving in the army where he was stationed at Fort Belvoir. The skills he learned at VT and in the Army provided him a career with engineering firms in D.C., Virginia, and Atlanta. For over 30 years he worked at B&A designing the HVAC systems for commercial buildings throughout the southeast.
Throughout his life he contributed to his community serving in leadership and volunteer positions ranging from the neighborhood civic association, the Atlanta Tennis and Lawn Association and coaching Little League teams, local youth soccer, hockey and basketball teams. He played in adult softball, flag football, basketball leagues, but his love was tennis. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, kindness, and love of family and sports.
He will be missed.
Chip is survived by his wife of 50 years, Maureen, his sons, Steven (Johanna) of Mt. Pleasant, and Chris Horwath of Atlanta; his granddaughters, Emma and Grace; his in-laws Pat and Don Murphy, Terry and Kathy Dailey and nieces, Meghan (Tristan) Davidson and Marla Dailey, and a grandniece, Aaliyah.
A service will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. On May 29, 2025 at 10am
