Frank Rucco Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc. on Nov. 12, 2023.
Frank J. Rucco, originally of Brooklyn NY, passed away on November 11, 2023 at Ecumenical Retirement Facility in Harrisburg PA, where he had been a resident for the past 5 years.
Frank was born on August 27,1930 to the late Frank Rucco & Filomena (nee Lagalla) Frank grew up in Coney Island Brooklyn.
He enjoyed the beach and swimming and went just about every day in the summer. His first job as a teenager was an attendant for the Wonder Wheel.
As a teen he often went fishing in Sheepshead Bay. He sold the fish he caught for 25 cents – not to make a profit – just to obtain the price of the fishing boat ticket to go again the following week and the process would repeat itself all summer.
Frank was drafted into the US Army in 1951 – to be sent to serve in the Korean War.
While on leave in March 1952–as a last-minute decision, he and two friends attended a St. Patrick Day Dance at Guardian Angel R.C. Church on Ocean Parkway where Frank met his future wife – Frances (nicknamed Sue). Frank would eventually marry Sue in that same church on June 4, 1955.
After their wedding, Frank & Sue moved to Gravesend Brooklyn where they built their house. He became a parishioner of Our Lady of Grace R.C. Church where Frank joined the Knights of Columbus and received the honors of the Third Degree in 1957.
Frank became a NYC policeman in 1957 and retired in1982, later working various security jobs for several years.
Frank is predeceased by his wife of 58 years Frances (nee Colucci) and son-in-law – Harlan Hyans. Frank is survived by his five children: Catherine Russo (Gary) of Harrisburg PA, Thomas Rucco of Harrisburg PA, Theresa Hyans of Staten Island NY, Marianne Rucco of Staten Island NY, Stephen Rucco of Sevierville TN, 10 grandchildren: Brooke, Keith, Diane, Kristin, Diana, JoAnna, Frank, Nicole, Stephen, Nicholas and 11 great grandchildren.
