Frank Russo Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Buklad-Merlino Memorial Homes - Yardville on May 20, 2025.
Frank A. Russo, 72, of Hamilton, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 17, 2025.
Born in Trenton, NJ, Frank was a lifelong resident of the Hamilton area. He graduated from Steinert High School and went on to study at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he honed the talents that would become central to both his career and identity.
In 1979, Frank opened The Music Box on Route 33 in Hamilton, a place that became much more than a music store. It was a haven, a community hub, and a reflection of his life's passion. Music was not just his livelihood, it was his soul's language. A gifted multi-instrumentalist, Frank could play the piano, guitar, saxophone, and just about anything he picked up.
To his customers, Frank was more than a shop owner, he was a mentor, a confidant, and often, a sounding board. Over the years, many came not only for instruments or lessons but also for encouragement, laughs, and a safe space. His sense of humor and warmth made The Music Box feel like home to many.
Above all, Frank cherished his family and treasured the time spent making memories with those he loved most. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a loyal friend to many. His presence, kindness, and laughter will be deeply missed.
Predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Dorothy (Pinto) Russo, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Ronald Kinnunen; his son and daughter-in-law, Josh and Betsy DiGiovanni; his brothers, Joseph (Sue) Russo and Michael Russo; his beloved grandchildren, Ronald Kinnunen, Stacey Kinnunen, and Theo DiGiovanni; and great-granddaughter, Averiannah Kinnunen. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
A gathering for family and friends will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Buklad-Merlino Yardville Memorial Home, 30 Yardville-Allentown Road, Yardville, NJ.
A prayer service will begin at 12:00 p.m.
Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

Frank was a wonderful mentor to budding musicians, he instilled a love of guitars in my son that still lives on. He gave him lessons for a few years and continued for when my son was sometimes short of funds!

I knew Frank as a young man. We were friends in junior and high school. Rivals in bands, a guy I always looked up to. After those moments in time, I moved away from the area and most of my friends. However, he was always a mentor of mine even though we were on our separate paths. I'm sorry that I didn't get to know him better in later years.
So young to be gone...
My condolences go out to his family and friends.

To the entire family and to my friend Angela. I am so sorry for your loss. May your heart find peace from such an unexpected death. May the lord take your Dad in his arms and protect him. In his glorious kingdom. May you always remember all the fond memories shared together. There is many angels in the sky. And even though you don't see them doesn't mean they don't exist. Your dad loved music he is playing his music now to the heavens. May your Dad watch over you, just as you have watched over him. Stay blessed, love Emilia and Ronald.

Frank was a friendly, warm and cheerful person. My girls enjoyed taking singing, piano and guitar lessons at The Music Box for years. I remember chatting with Frank and he was always funny and happy all the years of dropping off and picking up our girls. He loved his music! We will miss him dearly.
