Frank J. Sommer

Frank J. Sommer, age 90, of Naperville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on July 23, 1935, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Frank had been a proud resident of Naperville since 1973. He was married to his devoted wife, Luann Sommer, for 64 wonderful years. Together, they raised three sons - Kenneth, Daniel, and David.
Frank honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army before beginning a long and fulfilling civilian career. He worked for General Motors for 30 years and later with the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years.
A lifelong rail enthusiast, Frank was a true "rail man." He had a deep passion for trains and locomotives and visited numerous train museums throughout his life.
Frank cherished time spent with his extended family, including grandchildren Arthur, Allison, and Brady; great-grandchildren Auggie and Maggie; and even his beloved dog, Vincent, whom he affectionately named Keppar.
He and Luann shared many fond memories as snowbirds, spending winters in Tucson, Arizona, where they enjoyed the sunshine and an active lifestyle together.
A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, November 16, 1:00-5:00 PM at the Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. All are welcome to gather for additional visitation on Monday, November 17, from 10:00-11:00 AM at St. Margaret Mary Church, 1450 Green Trails Dr., Naperville. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM in the church. Interment will be private.
