Rev. Franklin Daniel Blackshear, a devoted servant of the Lord and a pillar of his community, passed away on March 26, 2025, in Savannah, Georgia. Born on January 24, 1936, Rev. Blackshear dedicated his life to the ministry, serving as the Senior Pastor of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Savannah, GA, where he made an indelible mark on the lives of many.
Throughout his tenure, Rev. Blackshear was known for his unwavering faith, compassion, and commitment to spiritual growth. His leadership inspired both congregants and fellow clergy, fostering a welcoming environment that emphasized love, acceptance, and service. Under his guidance, Mt. Tabor Baptist Church flourished, becoming a beacon of hope in the beautiful city of Savannah.
Rev. Blackshear is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, First Lady Ella Brunson Blackshear, along with their two daughters, Stephanie G. Blackshear of Herndon, VA, and Kimberly M. Blackshear of Savannah, GA. He also leaves behind one son, Franklin D. Blackshear, and his spouse, Renee, of Chesterfield, VA. His legacy continues through his five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, alongside a host of other relatives and friends whose lives he touched in profound ways.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life with a visitation on April 11, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, located at 601 E Henry St, Savannah, GA, 31401. A Celebration of Life service will be held on April 12, 2025, starting at 12:00 PM at First Jerusalem Baptist Church, 4370 Acl Blvd, Savannah, GA, 31405.
Rev. Franklin Daniel Blackshear's legacy is one of faith, service, and love, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
