Franz “Frank” Schroeder, born March 4, 1937, in Büchel, Germany, passed away on July 9, 2025. He was a beloved husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, and friend — and he’ll be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Frank was a proud Union Carpenter for 35 years, and he poured his heart into every job he took on. His craftsmanship can still be seen in the skyline of downtown Cincinnati, in the walls of St. Teresa of Avila Church in Price Hill, and even in the thrills of the Racer roller coaster at Kings Island. He was the kind of guy who could build just about anything — and usually did.

Before settling down into civilian life, Frank served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1964. He spent those years in the Army band, using his musical talent to lift spirits while also serving during the Berlin Crisis. His time in service earned him the honorary title of Kentuckian — something he was genuinely proud of.

But Frank was so much more than his work or military service. He had a big personality and an even bigger heart. He was quick with a joke, full of stories, and never passed up a chance to tinker with something — especially if it involved wood, music, or both. He built custom guitars, made wine, farmed, took beautiful photos, and competed in muzzleloading shooting matches. If he found something interesting, he dove in with everything he had.

He loved animals and never said no to a good cookout. He was always behind the grill at family gatherings, cracking jokes and making sure everyone was well-fed. One of his greatest joys later in life was watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up — cheering them on, sharing in their accomplishments, and simply being present for the small and meaningful moments that matter most.

Frank’s greatest joy, though, was his family. After coming to the United States with just $7 in his pocket, he built a full, meaningful life with Rosalie, his wife of 66 years. Together, they raised a family rooted in love, faith, laughter, and hard work — the true American dream.

He leaves behind his wife Rosalie; their children Lisa (John) Trump and Bernie (Eileen) Schroeder; grandchildren Erika (Marty) Huber, Rachael (Gabe) Haidle, John Trump, Claire, Laura, Ben, and Will; and great-grandchildren Luke, Jude, Quentin, Johanna, Oliver, Emelia, and Stella. He’s also survived by his siblings George (Donna), Bernard (Becky), Helmut (Alfedia), and Helena (Harry). He was preceded in death by his brother Willard (Angela), father Bernard and mother Maria.

Frank lived a full, rich life — one filled with music, laughter, adventure, and love. He left behind more than memories; he left behind stories, smiles, and a legacy that will carry on through the many people who loved him. We’ll miss him dearly, but we’ll never forget the man who could make anything with his hands and bring joy just by being in the room.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Hodapp Funeral Home 6041 Hamilton Ave. Cincinnati, OH 45224 from 6 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 7 p.m.
