Fred Abraham Akel

Dr. Fred A. Akel, a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy and dentist of 40 years, entered into eternal life on October 4, 2023, at the age of 82, in Fairhope, Alabama.
Fred is preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters, and his parents. Fred is survived by his wife Hanan; children Jerry, Jenny, and Marcy; and grandchildren Mackenzie, Ryan, and Riley.
Fred was born in Bennettsville, South Carolina, September 9, 1941, and lived in Jacksonville, Florida and Fairhope, Alabama. He graduated from the Emory University School of Dentistry in 1965 with a degree in History, and a Doctorate of Dental Surgery. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant Commander on the APA Cambria from 1965 to 1967. He married the love of his life, Hanan Akel, on August 27, 1967.
Fred was a devoted father and avid lover of history. Over the years, he took pride in collecting antique books, maps, and beer steins and loved traveling the world with his wife, Hanan. He also started an antique coin collection with his youngest grandson Riley and shared his love of history with his children and grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled at 10:30 AM Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at St. James Episcopalian Church in Fairhope. Reverand De Freeman will officiate. Flowers and condolences may be offered at 860 N Section St, Fairhope, Alabama 36532. A celebration of life luncheon will follow the memorial service at the Grand Hotel.
