Fred H. Andrus

Saddened to hear this news. My Deepest and Most Sincere Sympathy to His Family and friends.

Like Lee and Mark, I went to school with Fred for 12 years back in Akron, OH. And yes he was smart and kind and musical and artistic way back then. We knew Fred was special on all sorts of levels. I remember in the 7th grade Fred was busy in homeroom writing in a very large notebook. When we headed off to first period class, I went over to see what he was doing. Well, he was writing a symphony, scoring parts for all the instruments. I don't know that I had ever heard a symphony, and he was writing one. One correction for Mark, Fred only(!) got a 1593 on his SAT's. He somehow managed to miss a question on the math side. I guess even he was fallible. I have thought of Fred often over the years, and his death brings sadness to my soul. I am glad that he was able to find love and happiness in his life, for isn't that all we need.

So sorry for your loss. Fred and I were good friends at Firestone High School in Akron, OH. He was a brilliant and extraordinarily talented man. As a senior in high school, he was putting music into braille and was a fine pianist, as well as clarinet, and of course cello. His passing is truly a loss to humanity. May he rest in peace.

I grew up with Fred in Akron, lived near him, and knew him well until graduation from Firestone High. Without question, he was the smartest guy I've ever run across -- not just in objective test scores (he scored two 800s in his SATs), but in his outlook in life. He was one of the first to question the war in Vietnam -- and one of the first to expose me to the Hindu gods. I've always thought about him and wondered where he went and what he did. I'm incredibly glad to read that his life was a success, that he was happy, that he left a good family. He had a great influence on me, even if it was often passive. I have many many memories of him throughout school in Akron.

Sally I was taken back yesterday when we ran into each other and learning the loss of your Fred. So sorry to hear of this. What a great man and a joy to work with him at IBC. My condolence to you Sally and his family. May he rest in peace.

I have not seen Fred for 30 years. We met July 3,1976 on Penn's campus during the bicentenial. He truly was a unique individual....a talented pianist and cellist.....a great cook....a guy who loved the outdoors...brilliant, well read( read the World Book as a child). He was great at math, science, writing and photography. I recently visited a friend who has a beautiful photograph he took near the Art Museum about 35 years ago hanging on her wall. I am glad so many people appreciated him. I am glad he found success and happiness in life. May his memory bring smiles on the faces of all who knew him.

I worked across from Fred for about ten years. He was the smartest person I ever knew. He always amazed me with the depth of knowledge, yet never made me feel stupid. I always told him he should have been a college professor because of the patience he had when teaching me something. He truly was one of a kind.

So very sad to hear about Fred's passing. He was a great man. I had the pleasure of working with Sally for many years and remember when Fred started courting her. They truly were the best match and an example of true love. My thoughts and prayers are with Sally and all his friends and family.

I worked for many years with both Fred and Sally at IBC. Fred was a genius who could solve any problem. He made it all look so easy and was always eager to help. Fred's passing is a huge loss to anyone who had the privilege of knowing him. My heart breaks for Sally and Fred's family.
