Fred Baker Obituary

Fred "Bud" Baker Jr.

March 23, 1943 -

November 4, 2025

Fred "Bud" Baker Jr., 82, of Kingsport, TN, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

Bud was a proud American whose life was defined by humility, faith, family, and service. Originally from Alderson, West Virginia, he served honorably in the United States Army as a Paratrooper, demonstrating courage and commitment that carried through every chapter of his life.

After his military service, Bud worked as a coal miner, dedicating years of hard work before retiring. He later made his way to Kingsport, Tennessee, where he devoted himself to caring for his wife until her passing. He attended Central Assembly of God, and his faith was the cornerstone of his life. He loved and served God wholeheartedly, and his quiet strength was a reflection of that devotion.

Bud was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Altha, as well as his parents, Cora and Fred W. Baker Sr., of Alderson, West Virginia and two sisters. He is survived by his sons Lonny (Sharon), Fred (Angela), Jason (Mechon), and Daniel (Misty), four brothers, two sisters, ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Bud's memory lives on in the values he instilled and the lives he touched with kindness, humility, and unwavering love.

Bud and his family extend their heartfelt thanks to the employees of American House of Kingsport and Suncrest for the compassionate care provided during his final days.

A celebration of life for Bud is scheduled for Sunday, December 7, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. The service will be held at Central Assembly of God, located at 1801 McGee Street, Kingsport, TN 37660.

It was such an honor taking care of both you and Altha. You were an amazing husband, and always made sure everyone was taken care of. I'll miss hearing "Hey girl!" and getting that big hug! Love you Bud! You will truly be missed by so many, but I know you and Altha are living it up once again
