Fred Vernon Baker, 97, of Somerset, Kentucky passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025 at the Jean Waddle Care Center.
Fred was born on October 11, 1928 to the late Willie & Rosie (Lamb) Baker in Pulaski County, Kentucky. He found great joy in the simple pleasures of life-hunting, fishing, and searching for ginseng in the quiet woods. His kind and giving nature was evident to all who knew him, especially his neighbors who were often touched by his thoughtfulness. Fred attended church regularly at Ringgold Methodist Church.
He is survived by his son, Vernon Baker; his daughter, Jannie Baker; grandchildren, Tammy & (Mark) Catron, Scott & (Raina) Hodge, and Amanda Feltner; great-grandchildren, Brittany & (Sean) Haste, Markie & (Nathanael) Bell, Abbie & (Devin) Jasper, Macen Catron, Lainey Feltner; and six great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Fay (Harness) Baker; his daughter, Patricia Baker Hodge; his daughter-in-law, Shelia Baker; brothers, Oscar Baker, Raymond Baker, and William Baker; and his sisters, Lula Baker, Minnie Baker, Maggie Baker, Nellie Jones, Jessie Smith, and Flora Lovelace.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Ben Mitchell officiating.
Burial will be at Ringgold Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until time for services.
In lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations for the upkeep of the Ringgold Cemetery. Donations can be made at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home or First & Farmers National Bank.
