Fred Beckmann Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Fred James Beckmann, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left this world peacefully on January 28, 2026, in Ft. Myers, Florida, at the age of 89. Born on November 11, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, Fred lived a life rich with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Fred was the loving son of Ferdinand and Mary (Kozla) Beckmann. He graduated high school and joined the military and served overseas in Korea. His military career laid the foundation for a successful career as a stockbroker in the Midwest stock exchange. With a natural talent for numbers and an unwavering work ethic, Fred thrived in his profession while always maintaining a deep commitment to his family.

In 1963, Fred married the love of his life, Lorain Hash, with whom he shared more than six decades of marriage. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. Fred’s love for Lorain was evident in every aspect of his life; he was her confidant and partner, always ready to share a laugh or lend a hand.

Anybody who knew Fred is aware of his love for music. He learned to play the accordion and turned his musical talent into a side gig in Chicago where he played at many weddings and at many Moose Lodges. Indeed, polka was his love language. Not only could he play well, he could sing! For all his family members who pre-deceased him, we are certain there is a polka party going on in heaven with Papa playing his accordion!

Fred’s greatest joy came from his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Lorain, his daughters, Katrina Salokar and Kristin Hawker (son-in- law Sean Hawker). Fred cherished his grandsons Benjamin Beckmann (wife Shelbie Beckmann) and Alexander Hawker as well as his granddaughter, Sarah Hawker. Fred was also blessed with Great Grandchildren Amara, Gabriel, Jillian and newest great granddaughter - Maisie Lorain. Fred's love extended to his brother Ray (wife Karen Beckmann), and countless nieces and nephews and other friends and family members.

Fred had a zest for life that was contagious. He enjoyed many hobbies including singing with the Intermezzo choir at church, making sure his grass was cut to perfection and he also loved fiddling around the house. Nothing rivaled the happiness he found in spending time with his family and creating memories with his loved ones, whether by boating, attending school events, vacations, or simply by watching sporting events. His quick wit and musical abilities could lighten any room, and he was always ready with a laugh, making every gathering a celebration of togetherness. He was also a steadfast presence, knowing when his family needed him to be their rock, sounding board, or simply to provide a loving embrace.

An avid fan of the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bears, Fred was never shy about cheering for his favorite teams, always embracing the excitement of the game, even when his Chicago team was not performing up to par.

Fred proudly served his country in the United States Army, demonstrating a commitment to service that he carried throughout his life. He was an active member of his community, was involved at his church and showed the love of Jesus Christ with others, making the world a better place.

We welcome friends and family to Fred’s Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Hilary’s Episcopal Church, 5011 McGregor Blvd, Fort Myers, FL 33901.
