Fred Blair Obituary

Fred Lamar Blair joined his eternal partner, Josie, on December 2, 2025. He passed away peacefully at home with family at his side. At the time, he was under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice.

Fred Blair met his eternal partner and love of his life, Josie, in Olongapo, Philippines, in 1953. Their story began when Fred was deployed as a soldier in the U.S. Navy, and she was the owner of Josies Styling Salon in the Philippines. Shortly after they met, she was crowned the First Princess of the Philippines. Her beauty and grace overwhelmed young Fred. He then asked her father, Felix, for her hand, which he approved. They were married at the U.S. Military Base in Subic Bay on March 20, 1954.

They moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, where they purchased their first home. Fred and Josie made the decision to start their family. The love for family resulted in them bringing eight children into the world: Steven, R. Lamar, Cindy, Tammi, Fred Jr., Robert, Richard, and Jimmy.

Fred always kept himself busy managing their businesses, and working as the Department of Energy's Security Manager. He was an extremely hard worker, and more importantly, a dedicated husband. Fred was also one of the best marksmen in the U.S., earning several local and national awards as part of DOE protective force's shoot team.

In addition to being a skilled marksman, he loved playing golf. When the kids were young, he taught them all how to golf, and he continued golfing with his sons until the time of his passing.

Everyone that knows Fred has a story of he and Josie's kindness and hospitality. The Blair family remember very few times when the dinner table didn't include someone they didn't know but needed a meal. Their kindness did not stop there. They also held Christmas parties and other events for special needs children where Fred dressed as Santa Clause to make children's day even more magical.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved the fellowship of his church family and friends.

Fred is preceded in death by his loving wife, Josie; sons, Steven Blair and R. Lamar Blair.

He is survived by his children, Cindy (Jeff) Garner, Tammi (Gary), Fred Blair Jr., Robert Blair, Richard Blair, and Jim (Jenny) Blair. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue in Idaho Falls. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rigby-Pioneer Cemetery.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
