Funeral service for Fred Hugh Cawthorne, USAF, TSGT Ret., age 89, of Tipton, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2025, at the First Baptist Church, 300 E. Davis, Tipton, with Reverend Les Banks, pastor, officiating.
Mr. Cawthorne passed away Monday, July 7, 2025, at his home.
Burial with U.S. Air Force military honors will be in the Tipton Municipal Cemetery, E1740 Rd, Tipton, under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home.
Viewing will be at the Tipton Funeral Home, 220 E. Main Street, Tipton, on Thursday, July 10, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, July 11, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
He was born March 18, 1936, in Washington, DC, to Hugh Stockman and Isabel Catherine (Snyder) Cawthorne. He grew up in Washington, DC. Immediately after his schooling, he joined the United States Air Force. In the military, he worked as an electrician and an equipment technician. He served in numerous duty stations outside the United States, including Germany, Turkey, Vietnam, and Korea. He retired as a Technical Sergeant after more than 20 years of honorable service. Among some of the decorations and commendations he received were: Air Force Longevity Service Award with four bronze oak leaf clusters, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, and the HG Air Force Civilian Service award.
He was united in marriage to Barbara Harris on February 10, 1975, in Vernon, Texas. After his military career, Fred worked as an electrician for Buck Lawson Electric, primarily wiring houses. He also worked for the Tipton Farmers COOP until his retirement. Fred was a "car guy" and loved to watch and attend NASCAR races. Fred was a member of the Tipton First Baptist Church and had a passion for the Lord. Church ministry was of the utmost importance to him. He volunteered wherever there was a need and worked tirelessly helping to improve and maintain the church. He was a prayer warrior. The Lord and his family were his biggest loves.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Stockman Cawthorne and Isabel Catherine (Snyder) Cawthorne; and a son, David.
He was a loving husband to his wife Barbara; he was father to Marty Robins, Bruce Evans and the father of Tony Cawthorne, Fred Robins, Kathy Villa, and Patti Muth; he is also survived by a sister: Marilyn Russell and her husband C. L., of Rogers, Arkansas; a niece and nephew: Catherine Grubbs and William "Trip" Binford; and grandson: James Hose.
