Fred Charles Ebert was born June 3, 1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah to German immigrants Karl F. and Elise E. Franke Ebert. He joined his loved ones in heaven on April 15, 2023 after a trial of several years with Lewy Body Dementia. Fred's beloved sister, Norma Fletcher died in 2013. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Marjorie Hinckley Ebert; and his brother, Al Ebert (Marilyn).
Fred and Marjorie were the parents of eight children, Marnie Leavitt (Kim), Rebecca Dibble (Stephen), Al Ebert (Jody), Ken Ebert (Teri), Anna Rodgers (Jeff), Melissa Urry (Jeff), Rachel Kelley (Mike), and Kerry Ebert (Jocelin). He loved his family and took great pleasure in his children doing better than he did.
With thirty-nine grandchildren, and sixty great grandchildren, Fred was happy to call both children of birth and adopted children and all their partners a part of his and Marjorie's forever family.
Fred and his wife started out in Salt Lake City where he finished his degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Utah. Fred and Marjorie wanted to raise their children in the "Mission Field" outside of Utah and have many fond memories and friends from Freeport, Illinois; Waukegan/Gurnee, Illinois; and Ann Arbor/Saline, Michigan.
Fred and Marjorie had family nights at home creating works of "art" from plaster, resin, packing materials and plastic reject pieces from switch production. Fred and Marjorie built a house together with their children, enjoyed yard work, planting fruit trees, and teaching their kids the value of hard work. Fred loved music and singing. He was tender-hearted and honest to a fault; he often used humor to lighten emotions too close for comfort.
Fred served faithfully in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) where he most recently served as a youth Sunday School teacher. He also spent many years nurturing and counseling church members as a lay minister. Fred also devoted eight years serving as a Scoutmaster. In another church role as District Councilman, Fred shared his faith in Jesus Christ with LDS church congregations from Freeport, Illinois down the Mississippi as far south as Nauvoo, Illinois.
Fred left a legacy of love and gratitude for God, family, and friends. He looked forward to the heavenly reunion.
A funeral service will be held Friday, April 21, 2023 at 11am with visitation beginning at 10am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 525 Woodland Drive E., Saline, Michigan 48176. The service will be available online through Zoom. Please click on the link here: https://zoom.us/j/99008871828
A private burial will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery, Ann Arbor, MI.

Fred was and is my best brother. He treated me like a king. I always felt special. Fred always was kind & nice to everyone. To mom he was her Sunshine, Norma was her Moonshine & I was her Starshine, so he was the brightest.
I remember him with a full head of blonde hair & signing around the house. "The Shrimp Boats are a coming" & " Some Enchanted Evening". He sang that a lot after he met Marg.
As a family we didn't have a lot of money (we were poor). Fred refinished his Flexible Flyer sled with red rails, new varnish and pull rob. It had beautiful eagle on it. It's not sled, but love put into it, that meant the most.
Fred was perfect, except being 12 years older, he got married and moved along ways away. I could have more of his brotherly advice.
Love Alvin.....now Al......Dumb Chipmunks

I remember playing with Alvin evenings at the Ebert home while Uncle Karl was seeing families in the basement of their home with the Utah CV Credit Union (Today Utah First Credit Union), which he founded. I also remember the Saturday each year we took a truck load of prizes to the annual credit union Lagoon day. If you didn't speak German you only u derstood half of what was said there.

When my Father passed away in his last blessing we were informed that Tante Eliese his sister was the person who was going to meet him. Norma later told us that she had a dream that same night that she had a visit from her mother telling her that she was here to meet her Uncle Walter.

We look forward to a great family reunion and whatever Lagood day celebrations we will be enjoying.
