Fred Robert Halbert, 81, of Lynchburg, Virginia passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2026. He was born on January 10, 1945, in Reedy, West Virginia, a son of the late Robert Earl and Geraldine Pickrell Halbert. Fred was a 1962 graduate of Parkersburg High School and a 1966 graduate of Glenville State University. He retired from Wood County Schools after 40 years of service, both as a teacher and coach.
Fred is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kathy Jalene Halbert and daughter Kelsi Lynn Justice (Jerrod) of Lynchburg, brother Mike Halbert (Kathia) of Parkersburg, WV, sister Gloria Seckman of Concord, North Carolina, sister-in-law Joan Halbert of Parkersburg, WV, and grandchildren Parker and Claire Justice of Lynchburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother David Halbert, brother-in-law Mike Seckman, stepmother Mildred Cain Camp Halbert, and step siblings, Carolyn Steffy, Susie Williams, and Wendell Camp.
A Celebration of Fred’s Life will be held at a later date in Parkersburg, WV. Tharp Funeral Home offers an online guestbook for those wishing to share a memory or message of comfort.
