It is with profound sorrow and yet a heart full of gratitude for a well-lived life that we announce the unexpected passing of Ferdinand Q. Hartman, lovingly known as Fred, on December 15, 2025. Born on September 25, 1943, in the small town of Port Royal, PA, Fred was a beacon of light to all who knew him. After 82 years of a life marked by love, kindness, and unwavering faith, Fred departed from this earth in Vienna, VA, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire.

Fred's life was defined by a steadfast commitment to service and excellence. His journey began in Port Royal, PA, where he graduated from Tuscarora Valley High School before earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Penn State University. Following graduation, Fred entered the Air Force, serving with honor for 22 years. During his distinguished military career, he earned a Master's Degree from the Air Force Institute of Technology and eventually retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Transitioning to the private sector, Fred spent eight years as a Principal Engineer at PRC, Inc., followed by another 12 years as a Senior Security Engineer with SAIC. After many years of technical leadership and dedication to his country, Fred entered a well-earned retirement.

Fred's strong work ethic was matched only by his commitment to his family and his faith. For 33 years, he shared a beautiful marriage with his beloved wife, Alice Hartman. Fred was a proud father to Brad and his wife, Shari Klevens, Mark and his wife, Aomjai, and a stepfather to Kristi Latham and her husband, Mike. His six wonderful grandchildren-Quinn, Ember, Quinten, Thomas, Katie, along with her husband Ian, and Maddy-brought immense joy to his life. Fred also leaves behind a legacy of love with his brother Harold Hartman, sister, Marianna Ewert and her husband, Gary, and sister, Amy McElwee, and her husband, Bill.

Fred always appreciated nature and the great outdoors. He enjoyed camping, rafting, and skiing. Fred also enjoyed biking and rollerblading. Fred and Alice met at a dance and continued to enjoy dancing together over the years.

Fred was a long-standing member of Immanuel Bible Church, where he served and worshipped with dedication. His faith was not just a part of who he was; it was his guiding light, providing strength and comfort in both times of trial and celebration.

Those who knew Fred would describe him as a man of optimism, kindness, and generosity. He approached every day with a smile and a heart ready to give. He regularly donated to church and numerous charities. His presence was a source of comfort and his words a source of wisdom.

We honor the life of Fred Hartman-a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, patriotic veteran, hard worker, and faithful servant of God. We do so with the knowledge that his spirit lives on in the memories we hold dear. His passing is not an end but a transition to eternal life, where he rests in the loving embrace of his Creator. We have no doubt that Fred was welcomed with open arms to the words of Matthew 25:21, "Well done, good and faithful servant". As we remember Fred, we will celebrate the life he lived and the countless ways he enriched our lives. May he rest in peace, and may his memory be a blessing to us all.
