Fred Tutt Obituary

On November 1, 2023, Fred David "Dave" Tutt passed away peacefully in his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was 77 years old. Dave is survived by his wife, Gloria Rutherford Tutt; his sons David Wayne and wife Kay, Danny and wife Ashley and daughter in love, Sarah Tutt; his brother Fred Detar and step siblings Terry Tutt, Ginger Soper and Patty Chaney; grandchildren Brittany Friddle and husband Chaise, Jena Tutt, Taysha Tutt, Kaleb Tutt, Skylar Tutt, Bentley Tutt, Ryker Tutt, Aubrey Tutt and Danny Jr. Tutt, and great- grandchildren Christian Zeko, Lillian Friddle and Charlotte Sullivan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ret. Lt. Commander Wilson Tutt and Florene Tutt; his brother, Ron Anderson, and his beloved youngest son, Darryl Wilson Tutt. Dave was born on January 4, 1946, and raised in Texarkana, Arkansas. He graduated from Arkansas High School, class of 1964, and married his high school sweetheart Gloria on November 27 of the same year. Dave worked in the insurance industry for over forty years, where he built Southern Capitol Enterprises into a dynamic sales organization. During his tenure he became a member of the Millionaire Board of Directors. After leaving the insurance industry, Dave became passionate about giving back to the community with both his insurance business and investment loan company, Southern Capitol Mortgage. The Tutt Family Foundation enjoys bingo parties with our veterans, crafts at nursing facilities, making and handing out blessing bags to the area's homeless population, and providing local law enforcement with bulletproof vests and other events throughout the year. Known for his larger-than-life personality and no-nonsense attitude, Dave affected the lives of so many. The faith and loyalty he had for people that he saw something in, along with his ability to navigate the business world, made him who he was. What he said is what he meant, and he encouraged others to reach their full potential always. He was a loving father and Gramps to his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as an amazing uncle to many nieces and nephews but nothing compared to the love he had for the Lord and for his wife of 59 years, Gloria. There will be a private memorial service at a later date. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a small donation be made if desired to the Tutt Family Foundation (P.O. Box 83360, Baton Rouge, LA 70884) or a charity of your choice in honor of Dave. The family expresses their gratitude to St. Joseph's Hospice and a special Home Health nurse, Shannon Ford. Dave was tenderly cared for by two of his granddaughters, Brittany Friddle and Jena Tutt.

Dave was truly "one of a kind". I worked for him and Glo for almost 9 years. He was tough yet caring, frugal but, loved to spend, if he had a coupon, and passionate about everything he did! Our friendship became strong over the years and he will be deeply missed! My deepest sympathies and prayers for the entire family.
