Fred Whelan Obituary

Fredrick Anthony Whelan

Louisville - Fredrick Anthony Whelan, 85, of Louisville, KY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 with his family by his side. A native of Louisville, he was born September 26, 1935 to the late Bernie and Ruth Mills Whelan.

Fred was married to the love of his life, Alice Whelan, for 64 years before her passing in March 2021. He was a loving husband, father, Papa and friend. He was deeply loved by all who had the pleasure of having him in their life. He was handsome, fun loving, passionate, affectionate and above all a committed husband and good provider to his family. He loved golfing, fishing, hunting and traveled around the world with his wife and family. He worked for General Electric for 38 years before retiring in 1991 to enjoy a blessed, very long and enjoyable retirement. He had a special place in her heart for the Kentucky Derby and attended over 60 during his lifetime. He also loved St. Xavier High School where in graduated from in 1955. He was a generous host and loved to entertain at his lake house and teach everyone he could to water ski. He especially loved to dance the night away with friends, family and any cute girl he could find. He will be dearly missed by all. Although we are deeply saddened, we are confident he is present with our Lord Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his sons; Curt (Hillory), Tony, and Craig (Donna) Whelan, his daughter; Alicia (Brad) Barker, and seven grandchildren, Abra Hope, Bradley Thomas (Kelci), and Hannah Joy Barker; Craig Alan, Jr., Julia Rae, and Curt Anthony Whelan, and Katlyn Marie (Stephen) Welch.

Services for Fred will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1000 N Beckley Station Rd, Louisville, KY 40245 with burial to follow in St. Martin of Tours Cemetery in Vine Grove, KY. Visitation will be held from 2-7 p.m., on Friday, September 3rd at Ratterman Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Road, East Louisville.

I've known Fred for a very short time.....just long enough to know he was a very dear sweet man. I'll see him again one day, and introduce him to my husband, who is also with Jesus.
