Freda Marie Rivers, 96, of Kokomo, passed away at 9:14 PM, Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Community Howard Regional Health. She was born on August 26, 1919 in Ingalls, Indiana to the late William Wesley Stanley and Ida Mae (Kessler) Stanley. She married Raymond A. Rivers on October 30, 1948 in Muncie. He preceded her in death on August 26, 1994.
Freda served in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps during World War II. She was a member of the American Legion Post #469 in Frankton, Indiana. She was primarily a homemaker and was an Avon and Mary Kay Consultant for some time. She volunteered for Dr. Watson's Cataract Support Group and was a former member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. Freda enjoyed crocheting pot holders and donating a huge bag to We Care every year.
Freda is survived by two sons, Dennis Lee Rivers, and Timothy Earl Rivers; grandson, Joshua Rivers; three great-grandchildren, Joshua, Keeley, and Fiona Rivers; brother, Frank Stanley; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband of 45 years, Raymond; two sons, Ronald Arron and Raymond Duane Rivers; two brothers, Omer and Don Stanley; three sisters, Mary Adams, Helen Mickael, and Florence Keller.
Freda's family will be receiving relatives and friends for a time of visitation on Sunday, April 10 from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M., at Ellers Mortuary, 3400 South Webster Street, Kokomo, IN 46902. The funeral service will be held for Freda at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, April 11, also at the mortuary, with Pastor Jeff Newton officiating. Burial will take place at Maplewood Cemetery, 200 College Drive, Anderson, Indiana with the United States Army and Anderson VFW Military Rites Team. Memorial contributions may be made in Freda's memory to Prevent Blindness, 211 West Wacker Drive, Suite 1700, Chicago, Illinois 60606.
