Freda S. (Mast) Miller was born November 4, 1946, near Kalona, IA, the daughter of Sam D. And Katie (Gingerich) Mast. In her youth she was baptized and became a member of the Old Order Amish Church, where she was a faithful member at the time of her death. She died peacefully at her home in rural Kalona on September 4, 2025 at the age of 78 years and 10 months. She was united in marriage to Monroe C. Miller on September 24, 1970, living in matrimony nearly 55 years.
Freda is survived by her husband, Monroe; four daughters and three sons, Diane at home, Darlene (Truman) Bontrager of Iowa City, IA, Fred (Lillie) Miller of Riverside, IA, Alta (Harley) Miller of Harper, IA, Verna (Cecil) Miller of Sigourney, IA, Freeman (Ruth) Miller and James (Norma) Miller both of Kalona, Ia; fifty-seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three brothers and five sisters, Alvin (Dorothy) Mast, Dorothy Mast, Magdalena (David) Bender, Clara (Elmer) Miller, twin brother Fred (Mary Pearl) Mast, Esther Mast, Edna (Henry) Miller and Mahlan (Ruthanna) Mast.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Eldora, Verna, Lizzie, Alta and a stillborn sister and a brother Lloyd Mast.
The family wishes to thank everyone for their thoughtfulness, presence, prayers, food, and support during her illness and death. Visitors and mail were always a highlight. Your love and support will long be remembered. May God bless you all.
A Funeral Service will be held 9:30 am Sunday, September 7, 2025 at the James Miller Home 5705 Gable Ave. SW, Kalona. Visitation will be Friday September 5, 2025 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Saturday, September 6, 2025 from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm at the James Miller Home 5705 Gable Ave SW. Kalona. Burial will be in the Peter Miller Cemetery. Yoder-Powell Funeral Home is caring for Freda and her family.
