Freda Lynn Schnelle

Freda Lynn Schnelle, 71, departed this earthly life Thursday, February 12, 2026 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in Hazard, Kentucky. Born on June 21, 1954 in Cincinnati, Ohio she lived a life marked by compassion, dedication, and the joy she found in simple pleasures.

Freda devoted her professional life to caring for others as a nurse at Nim Henson Geriatric Center. Her work reflected her deep sense of empathy and commitment to those in need. She brought warmth and kindness to her patients and colleagues alike.

She was the beloved wife to Dean Burnett with whom she shared 29 years of marriage. Freda was also a devoted mother to her son, Jerry Allen. She held close bonds with her brother, Wayne Collins and her best friend, Vickie Fugate who remained a constant presence in her life.

A woman of many interests, Freda found joy in watching trivia shows, taking walks, reading books, and singing in church. She was an active member of the Happy Church where her voice added spirit to worship services. Known for her culinary talents, Freda's cooking was celebrated by all who knew her-Dean often said she was the best cook he had ever known. She especially loved spending time with friends, particularly Vickie, sharing laughter and companionship over the years.

Freda also had a special place in her heart for animals and adored her toy poodles, JoJo and Qtip.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Silas and Euna Collins, and her daughter Melanie Schnelle.

Freda's memory will live on through those who knew and loved her. May her legacy bring comfort and peace to all whose lives she touched.

A celebration of life service will be scheduled at a later date.
